Listen to Me

If you spend your life driving around, you could listen to V**** (rhymes with ‘yawn’) Radio, but you might want to listen to something better that’s more fun.

Here’s a website that offers FREE audiobooks for you to download.

But there are so many, Peter. What do I choose? Well, do not worry. I have chosen a few to start with. If you don’t like them, no problem. There are literally dozens and dozens more.

Carroll, Lewis – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (read by Sir John Gielgud) because Alice in Wonderland is one of the best books ever, and because John Gielgud has a truly wonderful voice.

Christian Andersen, Hans – Tales of Hans Christian Andersen, including The Emperor’s New Clothes, read by Sir Michael Redgrave. The same for Michael Redgrave.

Conan Doyle, Arthur – The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Radio Drama, Starring John Gielgud, Orson Welles & Ralph Richardson

Dickens, Charles – 24 Hours of Dickens Stories Featuring Classic Recordings by Laurence Olivier, Orson Welles & More

Fitzgerald, F. Scott – The Great Gatsby

Forster, E.M. – “The Machine Stops” because this man predicted Facebook before the First World War.

Orwell, George – 1984

Smith, Zadie – “Escape from New York” (read by Zadie Smith)

Stevenson, Robert Louis – The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde (Read by Christopher Lee)

Wells, HG – The War of the Worlds (Famous 1938 radio adaptation by Orson Welles) This one caused a serious panic with people believing it was real.
